A few places and recommendations that will come in handy during your stay in Mexico.

Flavors
Tacos al pastor — at night, standing up, with pineapple and, yes, at least three.
Suadero tacos (the couple's favorite) — fancy and glorious.
Chilaquiles — green or red, nice and spicy. If they say "they're not spicy," they probably are.
Street-side esquites and elotes — with lime, chili and cheese. Trust us.
Seafood — fresh tuna tostadas, spicy aguachiles and ceviches.
Sweet bread and coffee — a concha in the morning, in Roma or Condesa. A must.
Micheladas — beer with lime, salt and chili. Feeling adventurous? Order one with chamoy.

Getting around
Avoid heavy-traffic hours: 8-10 a.m. and 6-8 p.m., especially on Saturdays.
Uber and Didi work great in Mexico City and Cuernavaca.
Google Maps and Waze are handy for estimating times and routes.
If you arrive in Mexico City, avoid street taxis and use an app from the airport or the official taxis.
Important! For safety, we recommend avoiding highway travel at night. If possible, plan your arrival and departure during daylight hours.
Culture
National Museum of Anthropology — essential to understanding Mexico.
Frida Kahlo Museum — the famous Blue House in Coyoacán.
Chapultepec Forest & Castle — the city's green lung, with incredible views from the castle.
Memory and Tolerance Museum — a powerful, reflective space on human rights and historical memory. Well worth it for a deeper experience.
Xochimilco — a trajinera boat ride with music, food and a festive vibe. Very Mexican and perfect for groups.
Coyoacán — cobblestone streets, quiet cafés and a bohemian feel. Perfect for an unhurried stroll.
Roma and Condesa — beautiful architecture, galleries, terraces and restaurants that never disappoint.
Polanco — more modern and elegant. Great for strolling Parque Lincoln, visiting boutiques and museums, and enjoying amazing restaurants.
Buy tickets online when possible to skip the lines.
Plan your visits by area to make the most of your time.
Bring water, sunscreen and comfortable shoes — the best part is walking the city.
Wellness
Wear sunscreen every day, even when it's cloudy.
Don't drink tap water. Stick to bottled water.
Wear comfortable shoes and take it easy if you're not used to the altitude. Mexico City sits above 2,200 m and Cuernavaca/Jiutepec at about 1,500 m.

Hotels like Misión del Sol, Hostería Las Quintas and Las Casas have spas open to the public.
In an emergency, dial 911. Many pharmacies have an on-site doctor, and there are high-quality private hospitals in the main tourist areas. We recommend having valid travel insurance.

Teotihuacán: stunning pyramids less than an hour away, plus hot-air balloon rides.
Valle de Bravo: nature and a lake, 2 hours away.
Puebla: colonial architecture, talavera and incredible food. Perfect for wandering the historic center and trying mole or chalupas.
Tepoztlán: a magic town full of mysticism, crafts and the Tepozteco hill.
Xochicalco: archaeology and views. Ideal for a cultural tour.
Tequesquitengo: a lake for water sports and sunny days.
Gardens of Mexico: nature, flowers, peace.
Zempoala Lagoons: hiking, picnics and fresh air.
San Miguel de Allende: beautiful architecture and a romantic atmosphere.
Oaxaca and/or Puerto Escondido: tradition, color, spectacular food and mezcal.
Mérida, Cancún and the whole Riviera Maya: Mayan culture, beaches and cenotes.
Guadalajara: tequila tours, mariachi and design.

The hacienda offers complimentary valet parking, but we recommend taking an Uber or a taxi so you can enjoy the night worry-free. There's also a private taxi stand on-site available all night. Keep in mind that booking a ride through apps like Uber or Didi can be tricky in the early morning hours.
